Subversive Greenpeace campaign invites redesigns of BP logo

Posted by: Luke on 8/19/2010

Environmental watchdog Greenpeace has stirred up the online world with its recent campaign, a subversive competition inviting people to redesign BP's identity in the aftermath of the company's massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

"BP's slick green logo doesn't suit a company that wants to invest in tar sands, the dirtiest oil there currently is," reads the lead copy on the page set up for the competition. "We invited you to design them a new logo that was more suitable for their dirty business."

With nearly two thousand redesign entries submitted, the contest has obviously struck a nerve. If nothing else, this creative exercise in brand hijacking has provoked public interest, helping Greenpeace to spread the word and educate people about an environmental disaster that likely sits at number one on their list of priorities in 2010.

The winning entry will be used "in innovative and exciting ways as part of our international campaign against the oil company," according to the contest site.
